The workshop is designed to learn how to integrate the basic functionalities of the Moodle online classroom into the teaching process in an effective way. In addition to an introduction and a conclusion, it consists of 5 chapters:
- Organising work and study in an online classroom
In this topic you will learn about the activities in the Moodle online classroom that you can use to support your work with digital resources. You will learn how to navigate through the online classroom, how to organise course administration, how to create folders, labels, files and how to add URL links to the Moodle online classroom.
In the final part of the chapter, as a condition for progressing to the next chapter, you will create an online classroom for a selected content topic, organising the content and adding different digital resources based on the knowledge you have acquired in that topic. It is also recommended that you participate in a forum where you can share your experiences of organising your work and studying in an online Moodle classroom.
- Collaborative learning in the online classroom
In this topic you will learn about activities in the Moodle online classroom that you can use to support collaborative learning. You will learn about a forum that allows students and teachers to exchange ideas by posting comments as part of a discussion over time. You will learn about a chat that allows synchronous communication between students and teacher. You will also learn about the glossary, which offers both teacher and student the possibility to create a set of terms and definitions, and the wiki activity, which allows easy and fast collaborative creation of documents.
In the final part of the chapter, you will find two compulsory assignments. The first task is the collaborative creation of a glossary, to which each participant adds at least one example of collaborative learning using ICT in his/her field. For the second task, you are invited to create an activity in an online classroom that enables collaborative learning in the learning process. You can also participate in a forum to share your experiences of collaborative learning in the Moodle online classroom.
- Evaluating knowledge in the online classroom
Evaluating knowledge in the online classroom
In this topic you will learn about activities in the Moodle online classroom that you can use in your work to support the assessment of student learning. To this end, you will learn about the assignment activity, which is a space for students to submit assignments for marking and feedback by the teacher. You will also learn about the Quiz activity and its associated questions of different types, and the Choice and Survey activities, which also allow you to assess students’ knowledge.
In the final part of the chapter, you will take a compulsory quiz to check your understanding of the content presented in this unit and a compulsory assignment to try your hand at creating a student assessment tool in the Moodle online classroom. You are also invited to participate in a forum on the topic of knowledge assessment in the Moodle online classroom.
- Gamification in the online classroom
In this topic you will learn about activities in the Moodle online classroom that you can use in your work to support your learning with games. The Moodle online classroom activities that support game-based learning that you will learn about in this basic workshop are Hangman, Millionaire, Crossword and Quizventure.
In the final part of the chapter, you will complete a compulsory crossword puzzle and submit an assignment to try your hand at creating a game or gamification element in the Moodle online classroom. You can also participate in the Moodle Gamification Forum.
