The workshop is designed to learn how to integrate the advanced functionalities of the Moodle online classroom into the teaching process in an effective way.

In addition to an introductory and a concluding part, it consists of 5 chapters:

  • Organising Work and Learning in the Online Classroom
In this topic you will learn about the activities in the Moodle online classroom that you can use to support your work with digital resources. You will learn how to create a page, how to organise competences, how to create a booking, a book, a checklist, how to use the course element and external tools in the Moodle online classroom.

In the final part of the chapter, as a prerequisite for progressing to the next chapter, you will take a quiz and create an online classroom for a selected content strand in which you will organise the content and add different digital resources based on the skills you have acquired in that strand. It is also recommended that you participate in a forum where you can share your experiences of organising your work and studying in an online Moodle classroom.

  • Collaborative Learning in the Online Classroom
In this topic you will learn about activities in the Moodle online classroom that you can use to support collaborative learning. You will learn about the workshop activity in which students evaluate each other’s work. You will learn about a database that allows both teacher and student to create, display and search a collection of entries related to a specific topic. In this context, you will also learn how to organise group work in the Moodle online classroom.

In the final part of the chapter, you will find two compulsory assignments. The first task is the collaborative creation of a database in which each participant adds at least one example of collaborative learning using the online classroom in his/her field. For the second task, you are invited to create an activity in the online classroom that enables collaborative learning in the learning process. You can also participate in a forum to share your experiences of collaborative learning in the Moodle online classroom.

  • Evaluating Knowledge in the Moodle Online Classroom
In this topic you will learn about activities in Moodle that you can use in your work to support the assessment of student learning. To this end, you will learn about the quiz activity and its associated questions of different types, and the lesson and response activities, which also allow you to evaluate student knowledge.

In the final part of the chapter, you will take a compulsory quiz to check your understanding of the content presented in this unit and a compulsory assignment to try your hand at creating a student assessment tool in the Moodle online classroom. You are also invited to participate in a forum on the topic of knowledge assessment in the Moodle online classroom.

  • Gamification in the Moodle Online Classroom
In this topic you will learn about activities in the Moodle online classroom that you can use in your work to support your learning with games. The Moodle online classroom activities that support gamified learning that you will learn about in the advanced workshop are the H5P plugin, the Treasure Hunt plugin, the Book with questions and Badges.

In the final part of the chapter, you will be required to solve a crossword puzzle and submit an assignment to try your hand at creating a game or gamification element in the Moodle online classroom. You can also participate in the Moodle Gamification Forum.

  • Learning Analytics in Moodle Online Classroom
In this topic you will learn about what Moodle Online Classroom offers in terms of analytics of student learning and activity in the online classroom. You will learn about the assessments or gradebook in the Moodle online classroom and the different reports that help the teacher to monitor students’ work, activity, participation, performance in Moodle online classroom activities.

In the final part of the chapter, you have to solve a response to check your understanding of the reports presented in the online classroom. In addition, you will prepare a plan for the online classroom in which you will reflect on how you would display the assessment in your own course in the online classroom. This will require you to think about the categories and assessment items you would include in the course, to plan the activities in the online classroom that you would use to retrieve student assessments and to think about the weights for each category/activity.
