MONITORING STUDENT LEARNING USING THE MOODLE ONLINE CLASSROOM
In this workshop, you will learn how to monitor student progress using reports and the Moodle online classroom. To this end, you will learn about the general orientations and overview of learning analytics in the online classroom, you will try your hand at preparing a spreadsheet and using different reports in the Moodle online classroom.

This workshop is designed to introduce you to the possibilities of monitoring student progress in the Moodle online classroom. In addition to an introduction and a conclusion, it consists of 3 sections:
- How does assessment work in Moodle?
In this topic, you will learn about what Moodle offers in terms of assessment and learning analytics in the online classroom. You will learn about the general orientations and overview of learning analytics or the analysis of evidence of learning and how assessment works in the online classroom.
As a conclusion to the section, you are required to prepare and submit an assignment in which you try your hand at creating different activities in the Moodle online classroom that allow us to assess. As a recommended activity, you are welcome to participate in the forum where we invite you to share your experiences of assessment in the Moodle online classroom.
- Moodle Gradebook
In this topic you will learn about what Moodle offers in terms of tracking student progress using Moodle assessments or a gradebook. You will learn about the structure of the assessments in the Moodle online classroom, how to create new assessment items (to add assessments from outside the online classroom), how to create categories, how to assign weights to each assessment or category, and how to change the way assessments are displayed in the online classroom.
As a conclusion to the section, you will be required to prepare and submit an assignment in which you will try your hand at editing a gradebook in a Moodle online classroom. Participation in the Moodle forum is recommended.
- Reports in Moodle Online Classroom
In this topic you will learn about what Moodle Online Classroom offers in terms of analytics of student learning and activity in the online classroom. You will learn about the different reports that Moodle offers to teachers and students.
As a conclusion to the section, you are required to complete a response activity and submit an assignment in which you justify which reports you find relevant and useful for monitoring the learning process. Participation in a forum where you can share your experiences of using reports in the Moodle online classroom is recommended.
Objectives of the online workshop:
- to use the online classroom to support the learning process;
- to know the possibilities that the use of ICT (Moodle) brings to the study process;
- online classrooms as an opportunity to support and enrich the study process and student-centred teaching and learning;
- planning a strategy and implementing online classrooms in your own teaching work.
Conditions for the recognition of the online workshop:
- You are kindly invited to participate in the various activities (discussion, etc.) within each session during the workshop period, which are recommended and not compulsory.
- It is mandatory to participate in at least one open discussion during the announced workshop period.
- It is compulsory to pass 1 quiz and 1 response at the end of each session during the workshop period.
- 3 assignments must be submitted at the end of each session during the workshop period.
- Successful completion of the final activity is compulsory within the time limit of the workshop.
- At the end of the workshop, it is mandatory to fill in a survey in order to obtain feedback from the participants as a basis for optimising future versions of the online workshop.
After successfully completing all activities, participants will receive a certificate in the online classroom and, a few days after the end of the course, a certificate of completion of the pedagogical training by post (to the faculty).
